For Daum, since 1878 Art is the ultimate luxury.

As the initiator of modern glassmaking in the early 20th century, Daum made no secret of its creative ambitions from the outset, and in 1893 set up an artistic department within the company: a move that distinctly set the tone. From 'Art Nouveau' to the decorative arts, keeping in close step with all the innovative movements that marked the passing eras, the company was a spearhead of contemporary creation. The Universal Exhibition of 1900 brought it international recognition in awarding it a Grand Prix.

There is no doubt that Art is the underlying theme of Daum's inimitable collections over the years. Ever since 1878, Daum has called on the world's greatest and most prestigious artists. Artists like Salvador Dali, Arman, César, Dan Dailey, André Deluol, Lalanne, Paloma Picasso, Roland Topor, and Manolo Valdès gave full rein to their imagination and talent, expressing themselves in total freedom through the exclusive medium of crystal. In recalling that it has always called on the greatest contemporary artists of every epoch, the company now returns to its fundamentals to offer its unique and outstanding know-how in many forms. Today, Daum, the most artistic of luxury brands, takes a more dazzling place than ever among current trends, and, most strikingly, that of contemporary art.

Like a Marco Polo of art, the company has taken on the mission of offering precious, rare and colourful pieces to collectors throughout the world. A return to its roots that places the Nancy glassworks at the heart of its founding values, where uncompromising artistic standards are the key word.

Bergne&rsquos work shows less of a signature style than a quest for appropriate new solutions to diverse design problems. Whether working on bespoke projects or anonymous consumer products, Bergne is measured yet witty. Always striving for innovation and functionality, his design add humour, clarity or simple beauty to everyday objects.
As son of a diplomat, much of Bergne&rsquos childhood was spent in the Mediterranean, Middle East and Asia. This has given him a cultural awareness that allows his work to transcend borders. Travel continues to be a major part of the industrial designer&rsquos life as projects, events and exhibitions take him around the world. He set up a second studio in Bologna, Italy between 200 and 2007.
Bergne&rsquos achievements have been widely recognised with the international design awards, frequent publication and inclusion in permanent collections such as the Museum of Modern Art of New York and the London Design Museum.
