This exhibition explores the prodigious renaissance in furniture design in France from 1945 to 1975, in its creation, manufacturing and marketing. The advent of new materials &ndash foams, plastics, elastic meshes and Formica &ndash prompted the emergence of new furniture catering to the needs of a comfort-conscious clientele.
The contribution of new talents, including Pierre Paulin, Olivier Mourgue, André Fermigier and Roger Tallon, and the importance of the design manufacturers, retailers and publishers (Roche-Bobois, Roset and Mobilier International) are explored in depth.

"European Cutlery Design 1945-2000" by W.-O. Bauer, Arnoldsche Art Publishers, 208 p.

This book is a compendium of European designer cutlery. After the Second World War stainless steel (also known by the abbreviation 18/8) was the working material preferred by cutlery designers. Table culture attained a high profile with this new material. The industrialists Hugo Pott, W. Seibel and Philipp Rosenthal played a paramount role in ensuring that it did. New developments in technology, new materials and processes contributed just as much to the new cutlery culture after 1945 as changes in style, trends and fashions did. Today The Bauer Design Collection comprises more than 1,000 models.

Patrick Jouin (b. 1967) is one of the major protagonists of contemporary design on the French and international scene. He founded his agency in Paris in 1998. From year to year and project to project &mdash interiors, product and furniture, exhibitions, and architecture &mdash the agency has grown in recognition on the international stage.Jouin stands out through his elegant, clean style designed to serve the project: the quest for balance between tradition and innovation leads to luminous, enchanted designs.
His life-changing meeting with French chef Alain Ducasse is behind restaurants known for being &ldquothe most beautiful in the world&rdquo including the Plaza Athénée (Paris), the 59 Poincaré (Paris), the Chlösterli-Spoon (Gstaad), the Spoon Byblos (Saint Tropez) and the Mix (Las Vegas). In addition, Cassina, Alessi, Kartell, Cinna, Bernhardt design and Ligne Roset produce his furniture.

Taste and close attention to technique is one of the permanent characteristics of Jouin&rsquos designs. Materials &ndash plastics, crystal, porcelain, aluminum, and wood &ndash undergo the most astonishing transformations in his hands. He enjoys the transformations that techniques can bring about in an object&rsquos very structure. In 2005, the series of chairs in stereolithography, Solid, revolutionized the design world.
