Offering a personalised experience. The name refers to the emperor Augustus (Caius Julius Caesar Octavianus Augustus), the first Roman emperor and adopted son of Julius Caesar. He democratised brass by reforming the monetary system. The sesterce, then a tiny silver coin under the Republic, was cast in a new alloy: brass. This currency became the unit of account for the Roman economy for over two centuries. This reform democratised brass and gave it the nobility it enjoys today. Our Auguste House was founded on 7 October 2021, Saint Augustus' Day.
