Weavings of Kathmandu is the arrival of Tibetan communities in Kathmandu, in the early 1960s who introduced rug in the Valley. Seduced by these carpets for domestic or religious use in Tibet, Marcel Zelmanovitch decided to devote himself by opening the day gallery in 1982. The workshop is still located in Kathmandu and the Parisian Gallery publishes carpets to order, customized with your colors.

To start 2015, the Galerie Diurne is presenting a serie of rug paintings by Marcel Zelmanovitch : « Abstraction Brute ». This collection features some of the designer's favorite sources of inspiration: French abstract design from the 50s and the primitive arts . The Parisian editor chose a brand new texture to draw these singular shapes, weaving natural undyed wool, uneven and raw, evoking the warmth of animal fur. This new collection will be exhibited during Paris Deco Off and will feature objects from other craftsmanship, but still closely related to the spirit of the shown collection: a set of scales and wheels from the NAGA sculpted in a way that gives these usual objects a strong and simple beauty.
